Hi , Am i right in thinking there are always fireworks on Bastille day night over Carcassonne. If so where is the best place to be to get the best view ? I wondered if anyone has a plan as i imagen it is a bit busy as far as parking etc is concerned.

Hi Jonathan,

There is an amazing firework display in Carcassonne every year on Bastille Day, usually starting around 10.30pm I think. Don't even think about trying to drive into town, it's crammed with people and cars as literally thousands of people come to see it - its also a nightmare to drive out again. Best to come in the morning, by train or bus if you can then find your spot along the river and wait for the evening to come. Many people do this and there are often vendors set up to provide food and drink - there's a really nice atmosphere. Or if you fancy a really special evening out, you could see if any of the restaurants have tables left. We did this a few years ago. Or find somebody taking their boat and watch from the Canal du Midi. La Cite will be VERY busy during the day and part of it will be closed for the fireworks to be set up anyway so probably best not to choose 14th July to visit! Hope you enjoy it :-)

If you are in the area for July 14th, it is a brilliant display but VERY busy as the above reply says. Limoux and Castelnaudary both have obviously smaller but quite impressive displays on the 13th: one by the river and the other around and on the Basin on the Canal de Midi.
