On my dad’s side- My Great Great Grandfather was in the Guinness Book of World Records for being a part of the fastest 4X1 team. That record has been long broken, but I was a sprinter in high school for track, so I love knowing where me and my dad got our fast running ability ! He also ran hurdles and other sprinting races. 🤗 I also learned that later in life, he lost his hand in a Lumber Accident 😐. 2 of the photos are of his trophies!
My great great great great grandfather on my moms side came over from Germany and fought in the Civil War for the North. He died as a Prisoner of War in Sailsbury, North Carolina.
My great grandmother was an orphan, but grew up to be an amazing person. Her step dad tried kill her half brother with a hammer when he was 11– she had no recollection of this, but it happened.
My Great Great Great Grandfather owned a bar in Manhattan. (Pictured)
His daughter (my great great grandmother) is also pictured — she was 19 in the photo. She (and her father) watched most of their family die before their eyes. She was on the PS General Slocum- a passenger ship in NY that caught fire. According to google sources : an estimated 1,021 of the 1,342 passengers died from the ship. A lot of the women were sinking because of the heavy dresses and clothing. She watched her mother and little brother drown . I heard she was 13 at the time & during the time she was out in the water, 3 children were placed in her care because the parents knew they wouldn’t make it . Unfortunately, none of those 3 survived. The Slocum Fire was one of the worst disaster in terms of loss of life until the terrorist attacks of September 11th, 2001.
