As we ascended down the canyon, it started snow and was the most magical, surreal moment!
Visit some of the world wonders.
Twice - first time in 1992 to Indian Gardens and back. Second time in 1993 to the river and back in one day. It was very very hot and I had a massive migraine but I am glad I did it. Saw a wild mountain goat. For a busy National park on Labor day weekend, once you got one mile from the rim you were all alone.
There's a great hiking spot in the Grand Canyon. The trail descends from about 5200 feet elevation at Hualapai Hilltop to about 2800 feet.
imageIts an 8 mile hike to the nearest town in the middle of the canyons and an additional 2 miles to the camp site. There's an option to ride the Helicopter but it costs about 100 dollars and there are inns for people visiting just for the great scenary. The hike is worth it. You see a lot of great things that not many people would see in person. image
Like dozens of waterfallsimage
imageIf you're outdoorsy, I really suggest that you hike here. Theres also a 9 mile hike to the Colorado River from the camp site. imageI suggest bringing two pairs of shoes because the hike to the Colorado river requires you to walk through the river multiple times in waist deep water. The water is really beautiful.image
May 1978
8th grade 3-day/2-night hike with about 40 students.
11 miles each way to/from Havasu Falls & Mooney Falls.
Completed March 10-13th, hiked approximately 25 miles of the Supai side canyon.
May 2013, hiked Rim to Rim to Rim with Joseph. Trip was 4 days and 3 nights with his Scout Troop. Middle two nights we camped at Cottonwood campground and the day of "rest" was the day three out of the 10 of us hiked to the north rim. Joseph was the only kid on the hike to see both rims during the trip.
With a (much younger) group of intrepid hikers I finally hiked the canyon in 2009.

I've done this twice now. Down to the Colorado River and back up in the same day. It's exhausting, but camping at the top with friends is priceless! Hanging at the River for a couple of hours tossing a Frisbee is also pretty great.
