In February of 2010, a friend and I signed up to help "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" build a new house for a family in Slaughterville, Oklahoma. We worked overnight from about 11:00 PM on a Friday night until after the sun rose on Saturday morning.
There had been an ice storm shortly before construction began, and the ground was a muddy mess. A lot of what I did involved cleaning, espeically floors. In the wee hours of the morning, as I found myself wishing I could just rest, I saw a man with only one arm sweeping the floor with a push broom. He wore a giant smile on his face and had a very pleasant disposition. Talk about a wake-up call! I found my second wind and enjoyed the rest of my time there. It was exhausting but very rewarding!
Cameras were not allowed on the project so I have no personal photos of my time there, but I did get a t-shirt for my participation. So I can officially say, "Been there, done that, got the t-shirt!"
