I'm currently at a frustrating level of second language skill. I am conversant in Italian, but really would like to be completely fluent, and make my vocabulary contemporary and appropriately idomatic; my pronunciaiton less American.
I can cope in French and Spanish as a traveller and watcher of films, but really, it's just so close I can taste it -- there's no reason not to bring these all the way forward as languages I can properly speak.
Years ago I spent a year teaching English in Saudi Arabia, and Arabic was tantalizingly accessible, much to my surprise. I hear it spoken today and can grasp like every tenth word. That's just enough to feel like I could learn it for real.
I could learn every language spoken if I had the time, it's one of my favorite things.
